On Thursday 17 September 2015 our school family gathered together to celebrate the achievements of the 2014-2015 school year.
After a welcome from our Chairman, Rev. R Campbell we joined to sing "Great is Thy Faithfulness", a timely reminder that all our needs are provided for.
Our Principal, Mr A Dunne, presented his report and highlighted our top A Level students, as well as our AS and GCSE high flyers. The work of the Clubs and Societies in school was shown, along with the many sporting successes of the year, not least of which was the triumph of the McKee Cup in football! The amount of money raised by our students for charities was nothing less than impressive and shows the caring attitude of our families. The extensive contribution of the Youth Annexe was mentioned, and the way that it benefits the whole community.
Our guest speaker, Mrs Amanda Cairns, is a Careers Consultant and Marketing Lecturer at Ulster University. While she has been to our school to speak to, and inspire, our students, it was obvious that she was honoured to have been asked to our Prize Night. Her message to our school pupils was a challenge to each one, to not let self-doubt be a barrier to success, and her final sentence will be with us for a long time, "If it is to be, it is up to me!"
Following the presentation of certificates and awards our Head Boy, Jordan Garrity, and Head Girl, Amy Coulter, presented Mrs Cairns with a gift and a floral array.
We ended the gathering with a musical feast. The band was in fine form, featuring former students Adam Johnston and Lucy Hardy and new member Joshua Rainey from Year 8. They finished with a jazz rendition of "Ice-Cream" featuring a surprise choral contribution from Ashley Smith, James McMullan and Adam Brown. We'll definitely be seeing more from this trio!
There was much chat about the great evening when the canteen provided a welcome cup of tea to round off the night.
