Pastoral Care
Pastoral Care in Fivemiletown College is the provision we as a school makes to ensure the physical and emotional welfare of pupils. It is the essential foundation upon which learning can take place. Education and health are closely linked, and recent studies have shown that pupils with better health and wellbeing are likely to achieve better academically. Good pastoral care in school is also fundamental to the development of character and social skills, which will be of critical importance to pupils in later life.
Pastoral care extends beyond first and foremost parental responsibility to the family of our school and it is a top priority in our community. In Fivemiletown College a joint school strategy exists where staff and parents work together and take time to support, listen and understand the experience of pupils. In this way, we endeavour to create emotionally and academically secure learning environments where pupils feel safe, valued, and able to keep their anxieties and fears in perspective.

Pastoral Care is integral to everyday life in Fivemiletown College. Form Teachers are key figures in the pastoral system and meet their class everyday providing a detailed knowledge of the needs of their pupils for the Heads of Key Stage 3 and 4 who work alongside them.

Fivemiletown College also deliver a comprehensive life skills programme to Key Stage 3 pupils which incorporates aspects of personal development, citizenship, and employability.

Fivemiletown College promotes a positive approach to behaviour but unpleasant, unacceptable, antisocial behaviour and in particular bullying will not be tolerated.

Our Pastoral Leader is responsible for pastoral care who works in partnership with the Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator and the rest of the pastoral team.
