Science Department

 

The Science Department at Fivemiletown College aims to stimulate and maintain pupils’ interest, enthusiasm, and enjoyment of science starting at Key Stage 3 level all the way through to those who study A level sciences.

Key Stage 3

​

At Key Stage 3 pupils get the opportunity to study a wide range of topics across all science disciplines. Lessons are comprised of a range of practical work and theory.

Year 8 Topics

  • Introduction to Science

  • Cells

  • Particles

  • Magnetism

  • Body Systems

  • Earth and Space

Year 9 Topics

​

  • Photosynthesis and Food Chains

  • Acids and Alkalis

  • Forces

  • Food and Nutrition

  • Elements, Compounds and Mixtures

  • Light and Sound

Year 10

​

In Year 10, pupils study Biology, Chemistry, and Physics on a weekly basis. Many of the topics form the foundation for further study at GCSE level.

GCSE

 

Two courses are offered at GCSE level:

  • CCEA Single Award Science

  • CCEA Double Award Science
